How to separate rooms without walls in interior design
Separation of spaces: there are different ways of doing this in interior decoration.
When it comes to separating two rooms in an interior design project, there are many ways of doing so. Although at first glance we think of the wall, which would be the most "aggressive" and traditional way of separating, so to speak, there are different interior design methods for dividing rooms without the need to carry out such a large amount of work. With these methods we will achieve a more friendly separation and we will achieve spaciousness in the project.
Next, the team of interior designers from Tarraula explains what solutions we can create to divide rooms in a creative and original way.
Methods for separating rooms in an original way in interior decoration
Sliding doors in interior decoration
They represent the number one solution of this type, as they are like movable partitions that join or completely separate one space from another with a simple gesture. In addition to leaving no corners unused, sliding doors are a perfect resource for creating open spaces that minimise passageways and allow two adjoining rooms to communicate or separate, depending on the occasion.
Vertical slats in interior decoration
Seen and unseen. This is the effect created by the use of this type of slat in the distribution of an open-plan space. It is a fixed element, much lighter than a partition wall, which helps to distribute passages and circulation. At the same time, it is not an obstacle to light and gives a feeling of spaciousness.
A cupboard or shelf as a partition in interior design
With this idea you will obtain a double utility. On the one hand, it will be a partition that will visually separate and distribute the space. On the other, it will be a key storage module for order and organisation.
On the other hand, the functionality of a bookshelf as a dividing element is twofold: it is a piece of furniture that will separate different areas in the same room and serves to store books and decorate. What more could you ask for? If you choose it in the same colour as the walls, it will be lighter, while if you opt for another tone, it will stand out as a dividing element.
Glass walls for interior decoration
A glazed enclosure will bring two rooms together and separate them at the same time. This paradox is produced thanks to the transparency of the glass, which allows the light to pass through, as well as the visual amplitude it brings. At the same time, it subtly closes off, creating a boundary between, for example, the kitchen and the dining room, keeping smells and fumes out of the living areas.
The sofa as a frontier in interior decoration
If you want to divide the living room in style, distinguishing the living room from the dining room, the sofa will become your ally as a dividing line. If you want to reinforce the effect, place a low piece of furniture on the back, which will also provide storage space. Not all sofas are suitable for creating this effect. The ideal ones are low-backed and straight, so they won't be heavy.
Change of flooring in interior decoration
Flooring can be used as a useful element to distinguish environments within the same space. A change of material or floor level can frame different areas.
Slight separation thanks to curtains in interior design
Curtains are lightweight dividers that can function as dividers at any given moment, especially in lofts and open-plan rooms. The decorative play that this solution offers is very flexible, as you can choose light and airy fabrics, such as linen, for a fresh air, or heavier ones in elegant colours, such as velvet, for a more theatrical effect. The choice is yours.
From our interior design studio located in Jávea We have used these types of partitioning solutions in some of our interior design and decoration projects, since, as we have mentioned, it is an element that contributes many positive things to the space created.

What they say about us
Christine Wood01/05/2023Cristina and her team are a pleasure to work with. From just an initial meeting Cristina understood how we wanted to furnish our new home and came up with lots of ideas that suited our taste perfectly. She is very creative and spotted opportunities that we would never have seen. She has an amazing attention to detail. The furnishings are excellent quality but the team are always open to suggesting alternatives to fit with a given budget.
